KEY TAKEAWAYS
Self or Personal Development. For you to succeed in your business, you've got to love yourself first and have that self-esteem and be sure if you got that in your life, you will end up being a winner in your life and in your business life.
Belief. This is another element that is required by any business for it to succeed. One has to believe that he or she can do something or do any business and succeed. Have that faith that you can make things work.
Avoid negativity. For your business to acquire success, you need to stop listening to negativity from people who have not even succeeded in life. They will give you negativity about your business and if you listen to that negativity, your business will collapse.
Become a 21st person. If you don't step up and become more 21st century and learn about business and growth and development, the business will die.
Teamwork. Working together as a team pushes your business to grow positively towards achieving its goals. This is another secret of success for your business because you are all working together to achieve a common interest.
Love what you do. For your business to succeed you need to love it, love your business or what you do and be sure that you will achieve anything you want to achieve in that business you have.
Education. You have to learn for you to acquire the skills to run any kind of business and run it professionally and acquire success.
Mentorship. Having mentors, having someone or having people around you to guide you, paying them for mentorship, paying them to coach you is a gate to success for yourself and your business.
Education and finding people to help you who have been there that can guide you and that is how you become successful in anything.
BEST MOMENTS
“Keep on going even if the journey is tough, even if you fail as, many times as you can, wake up and never give up and one day you’ll end up winning.”
“The sky is the limit for any business. Do not limit your business from overachieving.”
“If you don't step up and become more 21st century and learn about business and growth and development, the business will die.”
“The greatest power we have as a human being is the power to choose.”
“Stop being a whiny little baby and start looking at yourself and saying to yourself how lucky you are to be alive.”

In today’s episode, Gordon dives into the time vs money scenario and asks you, do you value time over money? Are you exchanging time for money or money for your time? You need to understand both if you want to run a successful martial arts school. If you want to scale your school and go full-time, franchise or grow to 400 or so members, you need to know how to market your school. It's easier now more than ever to make money and now, Gordon shows you how.
KEY TAKEAWAYS1. Exchange Time For Money - This is your hustle, going out making it happen and being seen and heard. In this busy marketplace, you need to dominate your area with your marketing and position yourself in your audiences mind's eye every day. If you've got no money to market you'll need to exchange your time for money and get out there and market your school. This could even be putting a day aside and offering free PE lessons to local schools and giving them a mind-blowing offer. You're exchanging your time for business growth.
2. Exchange Money To Save Time - Place the biggest value you can on your time, it's the most precious thing you have. Always attempt to value time over money because you can't get it back. You can leverage social media with live streams and reach thousands of people at once. You can also use staff and outsourcing to save you time and end up with a better result in the end.
You need to dominate your market and get out there and do it. In the beginning, when you have nothing you need to leaflet, market and go door to door to drum up business. You can go around, business to business and make them a phenomenal offer because you are your biggest asset.
Most people value money over their time because they fear not having money. This is incorrect because when you don't have money you're more creative and you'll work harder to make it work.
There's a different thought process to valuing your time over money. This will help in growing, scaling and learning the art of leverage.
BEST MOMENTS“A lot of people are sitting there waiting for stuff to happen, rather than going out there and making it happen”“Your audience needs to know you're there when they are looking to solve their pain.”“Deliver a world-class assembly and inspire kids to come and join your school.”“Create no-brainer offers, something your audience simply can't refuse. ““Consistency breeds results. You can't market one day and not market the other.”

You will smash the hell out of your competition by communicating better with your customers, students and clients. The one thing that will make the biggest difference in your business in 2019, 2020 and beyond, is the relationships you build. Martial Arts Schools are a relationship business and nothing with serve you better than one to one communication with your students, customers, staff, followers and fans.
In today’s episode, Gordon urges you to make one to one communication a key marketing strategy for the new year, to serve people at a higher level by building great relationships with them.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The biggest difference in your business in the coming years will all be about, how you build your relationships because in the world of social media that we live in today, we've lost our identity as social humans. Where you will win in your business is human to human contact and the relationships that you'll build
Most kids now are disengaged and can't communicate. We live in a deluded world, but it's a good thing because when you strip it all back and we physically communicate you will see a connection.
Regardless of online communication, you can not beat physical communication, listening, learning and asking great questions. That's where we connect and form a relationship.
The first thing you need to do is get people into your school and connect with them one to one. But what you can do, is leverage the power of social media by introducing yourself via a Facebook live or talking to them online. Relationships start by meeting online and from there you can build a better relationship one to one.
When someone joins your school they're joining your family. Build a relationship with them so that it's lasting, worthwhile and that you can solve their goals and as a result, purchase your classes and courses.
BEST MOMENTS“The initial connection is online, where you're educating others and serving your audiences.”"Ask great questions and be an amazing listener"“How you build relationships comes down to how people see you and how open and honest you are.”“People will buy from people that they know, trust and like.”

Welcome to another episode of The Martial Arts Business Podcast. Today, Gordon shares with you the importance of knowing your why and purpose. When you know this, you'll be able to move forward. The why is your fuel and the reason you do what you do.
Learn why understanding your why and why you do what you do and achieve what you want to achieve is essential to your success in life and in business.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Never ever has there been so much information readily available to all of us all of the time. It’s a saturated resource today.
You need an accumulation of loads of knowledge to move forward and that helps us get where we want to go. It's similar to becoming a martial arts champion. It's an accumulation of blood, sweat and tears.
We all need fuel every day to keep pushing us further and further forward. Our why and our purpose will continuously help us grow and develop. So find your why, discover your purpose and focus on your mission.
Over time your why will change. In the beginning, it could be more monetary related, but there is always a deeper purpose. You need to make your why, purpose and mission, bigger than the excuses you make every day.
BEST MOMENTS"We will do way more for others than we will do for ourselves""Running a martial school is simple but it's not easy""When people say 'I don't know how to' it's a delusion""To know and not to do, is still not to know""Information as we know it is saturated""I am in the search for information and the search for the people around me to bring me up and elevate me""You can literally go on google and 'google' anything"“Knowing and knowing how is essential to growth.”

In today’s episode, Gordon shares with you the most important asset you need to know about to grow your Martial Arts school. The biggest barrier to growth is your mindset around marketing. It’s an asset, not an investment. Whether you want to grow your school, maintain your school or create freedom in your school, you need to understand the assets that can help you achieve your goals and marketing when done right, is a massive asset to your business.
Connect with Gordon by contacting him hereLearn, evolve and grow and you will absolutely succeed.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Invest in staff and invest in marketing and you will see your school grow. If you do it correctly it will pay you back royalties each and every month.
You need to understand the return on investment in marketing. Even if you break even on your spend it will pay you every single month with new members and paying students. Marketing is an investment, not a spend.
Facebook provides a fantastic free platform for you to advertise. All you need to do is commit to spending some money on ad spend, follow the formula and provide a phenomenal offer and you will see your school grow. The best bit is that Facebook bills monthly so if you’re doing it right and you have a good follow up sequences in place you will have students signed up to your gym and spending money in your gym before you’re billed for the Facebook ad.
Marketing is a numbers game. If you know your conversions and you know your cost per lead you can simply and easily grow your school. As long as you follow the formula and convert your students, they will pay for your ad spend.
BEST MOMENTS“Stop being scared and worried about your marketing spend not working”
“You need a great image, great copy, a world-class offer. You need a time sensitive offer and you get it out to thousands of people you will get enough leads to pay for that ad. Before you need to pay for that ad spend.”
“Start thinking of marketing as an investment and not a business spend”
“The things that are stopping you getting where you need to get to is you. You need to invest in your business.”

Running a Martial Arts school is simple but not easy and if you do it all yourself you’ll go INSANE. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. As Martial Arts school owners you need to be hiring staff so that we can focus on the things that we love, this is fundamental to our schools growth.
Staff are the biggest asset in your business, in your life, to your school and to your finances and in today’s episode Gordon explains how you can secure the right staff for your business.
Connect with Gordon by contacting him hereLearn, evolve and grow and you will absolutely succeed.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
I used to think no one could do it as well as me, I was afraid of giving away control. It's INSANE if you think that you can do everything in your school yourself. I didn't employ staff because I didn't want to lose control and even when I did hire staff I would micro-manage them and pick holes in everything they did.
It's a delusion to think with 7 billion people on the planet that you cannot find good staff. What you perceive as having bad staff in the past is down to the way you recruited them and trained them.
As Martial Arts school owners we try to make it work without staff. We'll end up exchanging free training for help, but never taking on staff. We need to stop that mindset and take on the right people to allow you to work on your business, not in your business.
If you're still a small school and want to grow it, you need to take on staff. Don't simply do everything yourself because you think you can't afford staff. You will never grow and you will never be able to afford staff if you don't embrace it in the beginning.
Staff earn you money, they don't cost you money. Staff give you the freedom to work on your school. Don't be a slave and do everything yourself. Only do the things that you love in your business and hire staff to do the rest. Start small and build big. Cherry pick the staff around you and begin thinking about the amount of time that you have free and start to allow your staff to free up more of your time.
BEST MOMENTS“Get the staff that are experts in the things you are not. Hiring staff transformed my life and transformed my business”
"We only value something that we exchange money on."
"Every business has staff, you need them to succeed"
"I was deluded for so many years and I don't want it to be you. Staff earn you money, they don't cost you money"
“The first best hire that you can have is the one that does the job you hate the most”
“If you treat your school as a hobby it will cost you like one. If you treat it as a business it will pay you like one.”

Are You Thinking Big Enough?

Monday Oct 29, 2018

Monday Oct 29, 2018

Are you thinking about what you want? where you want to go? and about the dreams, you want to achieve? In today’s episode Gordon asks you, are you thinking big enough?
Most school owners are shrinking themselves down to what they think they can get, to what they think they can achieve. But this is completely the wrong mindset, you need to think big in order to achieve big. There are no limits and your school can be what you want it to be. Stop thinking small and expand your dreams. Harness the power of thinking bigger and get rid of the limitations that you impose on yourself.
Connect with Gordon by contacting him here
Learn, evolve and grow and you will absolutely succeed.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Every human being wants to move forward. The way we are programmed is for constant evolution, we only feel alive when we are moving towards the next level. But when we’re scared and we don’t embrace the challenge we shrink out goals and convince ourselves that where we’re at currently is okay. But remember, what got you where you are today will not take you further.
Get rid of your fear and emotions holding back your growth. It’s your mindset and what your thinking that’s stopping you from achieving. Stop worrying about the downside and about what other people think. It’s okay to want to grow and create a multi-million-pound Martial Arts Business. It’s okay to make money from your passion, but you need to accept it and grow towards it.
Don’t think small. Get clear on what you really want and stop being the reasons why you can’t grow. It’s all about your thought and mindset and once you get clarity on this you will drive to achieve your goals.
Think big and dream big. You need to know WHY you want to achieve your goals and dreams. Once you understand your reason why you can really grow your school and take action on your dreams.
We all need mentors to push us and drive us forward to achieve the dreams we set ourselves out to achieve. Mentors can see what we can’t and can direct us in the right way
BEST MOMENTS“People in life are not thinking big enough. They’re shrinking themselves, rather than expanding themselves.”
“With the emergence of Facebook we can disrupt people’s flow and tell them what Martial Arts is all about. We are in the best place business to grow and achieve our dreams.”
“It’s a phenomenal time to be alive and to be a martial arts business owner. There are no limits”
“Excuses shrink down what you want to achieve, don’t make excuses and go out there and experience life in its fullest.”
“You are the captain of your ship”
“Have massive dreams, massive aspirations and that is because, you have a massive WHY”

In today’s episode, Gordon discusses the biggest thing you need to understand in your Martial Arts School so that you can grow. Once you understand this you’ll be able to take your school to the next level. Gordon shares this important lesson from his own personal experience.
The one thing that needs to change in your school so that you can change and you can grow, is YOU. It's the hardest thing to learn but the most important thing to do. Realise that you are the problem, you are the barrier, you are the excuse maker and you are the reason where you're not where you want to get to. As soon as you realise this you will be able to take action and grow your school.
Connect with Gordon by contacting him here
Learn, evolve and grow and you will absolutely succeed.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
We are our biggest challenge to overcome. It's because we've put up so many barriers, emotional and physical.
Don't make excuses for yourself. The knowledge is out there and most of the time it's free. Don't block yourself off and create a barrier for your own success. You need to challenge yourself every day, if you're not where you're at in your school it's because you aren't taking action.
You are your businesses driver and therefore you must stay in control and grow your skills. Don't create excuses, go all in on your business and drive its success.
Don't take this as a negative. Simply look at what you need to change and what your habits you can start to have so you can improve yourself and improve your school
Get clarity on what you want. Work out what you need and then you can go out there and get it. Then you can become a solutions-oriented person rather than a negatively oriented person.
BEST MOMENTS“Even when I transformed my school I was still blocking my growth as a person and my personal development”
“Work harder on yourself than you do anything else.”
“90% of martial arts school owners are the problem.”

Welcome to another episode of the Martial Arts Business Podcast. In today’s episode, Gordon shares with you the five essential service needs, you must have in your martial arts school. If you’re looking to start, grow and scale your school you need to be able to serve your students, customers and prospects well, so that you can grow your school and retain your students.
Marketing is the most important thing in business, but you also need to remember and understand to serve the needs of your students.
Connect with Gordon by contacting him here
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Five Essential Needs For Your Martial Arts Business
If someone contacts you ensure you offer them empathy - Your students need you to understand them and realise where they’re coming from and why they’re looking to undertake martial arts. Seek to understand your students on a deeper basis, and as a result, more students will warm to you and stay students of your school. As soon as you don’t serve your students by listening to them, offering individual empathy to them and assisting them, you will lose them as customers.
Ensure you’re being fair to the customer - Fairness is always a win-win for the customer and for you. This includes pricing fairly and offering value for money for your service. Ask yourself are you charging a fair price for your classes? too little? or too much? The exchange in value for your services must represent a fair exchange. Fairness is extremely important when converting a prospect into a paying customer.
Business transparency - Customers need to understand what they’re signing up for and what they’re getting in to. They need to see transparency in your business and understand who you are and what you do. Be open, transparent and honest with your students, in all points of contact with your customers.
The customer needs to feel like they’re in control - The customer must feel in control in a transaction from start to finish. Empowerment shouldn’t end with the sale, it should follow through all the way to your students hitting the dojo. If your customers understand your business and feel like a valued member they will feel in control and stay in your school. In today’s episode, Gordon shows you how to stay positive whilst building your Martial Arts school and explains why it’s essential to stay focused, avoid the negative and love the journey whilst doing it.
Positivity breeds positivity and negativity breeds negativity. No matter how big you are as a school you need to embrace the challenges you face and embrace the negative so that you can grow as a business and as a school. You will always have challenges in life, no matter how big your martial arts business grows. The key is to learn from the challenges in your life and move on from them. Take the positives on board and grow from the experience. You have to enjoy the journey and love the process

KEY TAKEAWAYS
It's really important to focus on all that's good and all that's positive. We all have challenges on our journey but with every challenge, it brings us victories. Each challenge that we have is there for us because we need it at that point in our journey.
You have aspirations to learn more, know more and have more. But in order to do so, you must face the challenges along your journey. Don't box yourself in and sit in the negative, embrace the challenge, embrace the learning and look at challenges as a positive so that you can grow.
BEST MOMENTS"Don't let the negativity take over your life"
"If your green you'll grow and if you're ripe you'll rot" Ray Kroc
“Reframe your thinking and evolve yourself and your school”
“You have to enjoy the journey because that's where you spend the most time. If you're not enjoying the challenge then you're not enjoying your life.”
